When the gods of Olympus decided to help out Hercules in his quest, they set a trap for him. Hades was there along with all of his minions. Zeus did not want to let go of Hades so he did not give him the chance to get angry. Hades lost his temper and made it so nobody could pass him on their way.
Zeus then clapped his hands and said that it would be possible for Hercules to pass through Hades if he managed to get past all of the monsters. The trick was getting past all of the monsters without them realizing that they were there. It was very dangerous because the monsters had been sent after Hercules by their master Hades.
